Product Care

Each piece of The LyLa Look jewelry is handcrafted using precious and other metals (including 99.9% pure silver, sterling silver, copper, brass), glass, seed beads, cylinder beads, crystals, pearls, soft gemstones and various textiles.  Maintain and ensure the beauty and longevity of your jewelry by using the cleaning and care methods detailed below.  For jewelry integrity and beauty, pieces should not be worn in water (swimming pool, hot tub, shower, etc.).  Contact with chlorine and household cleaning products will dull the finish.  We recommend applying perfume, hairspray, hand and body lotions before putting on your jewelry.

Metal Jewelry Care

There are many cleaning products available for each type of metal, but we recommend removing metal tarnish by washing with warm water containing a few drops of mild phosphate free dish washing liquid.  Do this often and your metal jewelry will not develop a dark tarnish.  A soft baby toothbrush can be used (gently and only when needed) for more aggressive cleaning.  Before storing, wipe the piece with a soft cloth and let air dry completely.  Use a polishing cloth specific to the metal type to return the piece to a high luster if desired.  Where noted, some of our jewelry has been purposefully tarnished to achieve the desired look.  Using a polishing cloth in this case will remove the tarnish and change the look of the piece.

Seed Bead and Cylinder Bead Woven Jewelry Care

Please be aware seed beads and cylinder beads patina over time.  This is natural bead maturity.  There will be a slight change in bead color and finish through time and wear.  Occasional cleaning with a microfiber cloth is fine, however prolonged contact with water is not advised.

Mixed Media Jewelry Care

Jewelry that is constructed using a combination of various metals, textiles, pearls, and soft gemstones should not be immersed and scrubbed.  Use a cotton swab with very diluted liquid soap carefully wiping the surfaces that need cleaning.  Wipe the piece with a damp cloth or cotton swab to remove any soapy residue.  Use a polishing cloth specific to the metal type to return those elements to a high luster if desired.
